IS 16714: k=0.60; excellent for marine HSC; reduces heat; may use FA or GGBS, not both
High-WR PCE mandatory for M55; 25–35% typical

● Aggregate & Workability

● Material Properties — HSC Critical

IS 2386 Pt IV aggregate crushing value — HSC requires ≥250 kN / ACV ≤25%
IS 2386 Pt IV — HSC: LA ≤ 25% (recommended ≤ 22%)

    🔎 M55 Grade — Key HSC Facts

    • Characteristic strength: fck = 55 MPa (cube); EN 206 equivalent C45/55; ACI f'c ≈ 44 MPa (cylinder)
    • IS classification: High-Strength Concrete — IS 10262:2019 provisions for HSC apply; trial mix mandatory regardless of experience
    • w/c range: Typically 0.30–0.36 for M55; well below IS 456 Extreme max of 0.40 (strength governs)
    • Silica fume: IS 15388 (IS 3812 Pt 1) — 6–12% of OPC; k≈2.50; pozzolanic reaction fills capillary voids; increases water demand ~2 L/m³ per 1% SF
    • PCE SP: 25–35% WR mandatory — without high-WR PCE, workable M55 at correct w/c is impossible at reasonable cement contents
    • Aggregate quality: Granite or basalt with SG ≥ 2.68, LA abrasion ≤ 25% (recommend ≤ 22%), ACV ≤ 25%. At M55+, aggregate becomes the strength-limiting phase — reject sandstone, weak limestone
    • Autogenous shrinkage: At w/c <0.36, chemical shrinkage exceeds available water → self-desiccation → autogenous shrinkage. Seal curing or internal curing aggregate recommended
    • IS 10262 standard deviation: For M55, the assumed 5.0 MPa SD from Table 1 may underestimate variability in early production. Use actual data from ≥30 test results once available; start conservatively with 5.5–6.0 MPa
⚠️ M55 HSC — Critical Production Requirements: M55 concrete demands: (1) NABL-tested aggregates before use — no visual inspection substitutes; (2) Marsh cone saturation test for each new cement batch + PCE combination; (3) Temperature-controlled mixing — concrete temperature ≤ 30°C at batching; (4) Strict moisture correction for every batch; (5) Minimum 6 cubes per batch (3 × 7d + 3 × 28d); (6) Experienced concrete technologist oversight throughout production.
