IS 10262 · ACI 211.1 · EN 206
200,000+ Mix Designs

Our Mission — Accurate, Accessible Concrete Mix Design for Every Engineer

MixDesignCalc was founded on a straightforward conviction: every structural engineer and concrete technologist, whether working on a single-storey residence in a small town or a signature bridge over a major river, deserves access to the same quality of concrete mix design tools that large consultancies and contractors take for granted. A poorly proportioned mix design — too little cement, the wrong water-cement ratio, an incorrect standard deviation — can quietly compromise a structure for decades before anyone notices. A well-designed mix, executed with discipline, is the foundation of structural safety and durability.

We built MixDesignCalc to eliminate the errors that arise from manual IS 10262 calculations done under time pressure, from nominal mix guesswork substituting for proper design mix procedure, and from confusion about which standard governs which parameter. The platform automates the arithmetic precisely, enforces IS 456 and IS 10262 compliance checks automatically, and produces client-ready PDF reports that meet the format requirements of major Indian infrastructure authorities.

🎯 Our Core Commitment to the Profession

  • Mathematically exact: Every output is identical to a correctly performed manual IS 10262:2019 calculation — validated against 200+ published worked examples
  • Standards-first: IS 456:2000, IS 10262:2019, IS 383:2016, IS 9103, ACI 211.1, ACI 318-19, and EN 206:2021 — all implemented precisely, not approximately
  • Engineer-centred: Built by practicing structural and materials engineers, not by software developers guessing at engineering requirements
  • Education through transparency: Every intermediate step is shown and explained — the platform teaches the method, not just delivers an answer
  • Continuously updated: Standards revisions, new IS editions, and updated reference data are incorporated as they are published

Our Story — How MixDesignCalc Was Built (2021–2026)

MixDesignCalc grew from a practical frustration shared by its founding engineers: mix design calculation on Indian infrastructure projects was still being done by hand, in spreadsheets of unknown provenance, or with international tools that didn't correctly implement IS standards. The consequences were real — mix designs with incorrect standard deviations, nominal mixes being submitted for M30 approval, and QC teams with no systematic tool for tracking cube results against IS 456 acceptance criteria.

Our Values — What Guides Every Decision We Make

🔎

Technical Exactness

Every formula implements the standard as written, not as interpreted. We cite the exact clause number. When a standard is ambiguous, we document our interpretation and invite expert review.

🎓

Engineering Education

MixDesignCalc explains every calculation step. A student using the platform learns the IS 10262 method as thoroughly as they would from a textbook. We do not create black-box answers.

👥

Inclusive Access

The core calculator is free. Professional tools should not be gatekept behind expensive software licences that small firms and solo practitioners cannot afford.

🌿

Sustainability

Every mix design is an opportunity to reduce cement content, incorporate SCMs, and lower embodied carbon. We build sustainability metrics into the platform to make the sustainable choice the easy choice.

✅

Accountability

When we find an error in the platform — in a formula, a table value, or a compliance check — we fix it immediately, document it in the changelog, and notify affected users proactively.

💬

User Partnership

94% of submitted feedback is reviewed and responded to. The platform's best features — moisture correction, trial mix planner, control charts — were built directly from user suggestions.

The Team Behind MixDesignCalc

MixDesignCalc is built by a small, focused team of practicing engineers and developers who use the platform themselves on live projects. Every member of the technical team holds an engineering qualification and has direct field experience with concrete mix design and quality control.

📌 Why We Keep the Core Calculator Free

The IS 10262 mix design calculation is not a premium feature — it is the fundamental professional tool of a concrete technologist, as basic as a structural engineer's load tables. Placing it behind a paywall creates a two-tier engineering profession where correct practice depends on budget. We keep the full calculation free for this reason.

The paid plans support features that require ongoing infrastructure and expert time — report generation at scale, QC dashboard data storage, video consultations, and API integrations. These are tools for professional practice, not for occasional design use.

Calculation Accuracy & Validation — How We Verify MixDesignCalc's Outputs

Technical credibility is not assumed — it is earned through rigorous testing. MixDesignCalc's calculation engine is validated against three independent sources before any new standard or calculation module is released to users.

VALIDATION METHODOLOGY — MIXDESIGNCALC CALCULATION ENGINE: Step 1 — Published Worked Examples: Every IS 10262:2019 and ACI 211.1 module is validated against published textbook worked examples and BIS/ACI published design examples. Tolerance: ≤ 2 kg/m³ cement content deviation (rounding only). Status: 200+ examples validated ✓ Step 2 — Independent Manual Calculation: For each new standard or feature, at least 3 independent manual calculations are performed by a qualified engineer not involved in building the module. Results compared against platform output. Tolerance: ≤ 1 kg/m³ all quantities (before rounding to nearest 5 kg). Status: All modules pass ✓ Step 3 — Peer Review by Domain Expert: Complex modules (HSC, RCA, AEA, EN 206) are reviewed by a specialist before release. Review covers formula implementation, table interpolation, compliance check logic, and edge case handling. Status: All current modules reviewed ✓ Step 4 — User Validation Reports: Users who find discrepancies submit via the feedback form. All reported discrepancies are investigated within 24 hours. If confirmed: fix within 48 hrs + changelog notification to affected users. Known discrepancies since launch: 3 (all fixed; documented in changelog)

⚠️ Professional Responsibility Disclaimer

MixDesignCalc is a calculation assistance tool, not a substitute for professional engineering judgment. Every mix design report generated by MixDesignCalc must be reviewed, signed, and stamped by a qualified engineer before submission to any approval authority, client, or contractor. The engineer of record is responsible for verifying that the inputs are correct, that trial mixes have been conducted per IS 10262 Cl. 9, and that the design mix is appropriate for the specific project conditions.

MixDesignCalc calculates precisely what you instruct it to calculate. Incorrect inputs — wrong standard deviation, incorrect aggregate specific gravity, wrong exposure class — will produce incorrect outputs that appear formally correct. The platform enforces IS 456 compliance limits automatically, but it cannot verify that your inputs accurately represent the actual materials and conditions on your project. That professional responsibility remains with you.

🌿 Sustainability Note

Every mix design optimised through MixDesignCalc has the potential to reduce cement content versus an over-designed nominal mix or poorly calculated design mix. Across 200,000+ mix designs calculated on the platform since 2021, we estimate that MixDesignCalc-assisted designs have collectively avoided approximately 8,000–12,000 tonnes of excess cement compared to equivalent nominal mix or un-optimised design mix approaches. At a carbon intensity of 0.85 kgCO₂ per kg OPC, this represents approximately 6,800–10,200 tonnes of CO₂ avoided — from a single software tool.

We are committed to continuously improving our sustainability tools and guidance, and to making the low-carbon concrete design choice the easiest and most accessible choice for every engineer who uses the platform.
